No! This is a common misconception. The VIVA uses a proprietary 16MP camera* combined with the power of Volk optics. By not using the phone’s camera, it allows us to better optimize the imaging parameters to produce high-quality retinal images.
*The retinal image captured is cropped from the 16 MP camera and therefore the image resolution is approximately 2 MP (1920 x 1080 pixels).
